Applied Evolution

Hi!

I formed this company around 1996 with the grand Idea of finding commercial applications of evolutionary theory with genetic algorithms in particular. Sadly it was a solution looking for a problem so in the last 9 or so years I have occupied my time and earned a crust as an IT consultant. I specialised in Applescript and the mac platform. I was hired to do some work for a company called Chong Bureau. They were a media monitoring service, what the hell is that? I hear you asking. Well I had no idea either when I started either, however, I ended up the IT manager and then company was sold and we bought two broadcast monitors and became Chong Newztel. Well every thing went fine till CN was sold to our arch rivals Media Monitors from australia in march 2009. This was a shame, we were a very technologically advanced company with great people and we were winning. Never mind, that’s life and we have to move on. Working at chong’s offered me one indulgence and that was from 2005 I have enjoyed an honorary research associate position at massey university’s albany campus. Currently I am in the Institute of Natural Sciences and I can play around there mainly working on the evolution of recombination and robust systems.

As they say necessity was a mother of an invention so I have been banging both brain cells together to get something going in my post chong life. I will let you know How I am getting on.

cheers

Phillip Smith
